Madame Web 2024 Movie Plot Cast Review

Madame Web is a 2024 superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, who is a psychic ally of Spider-Man. The film is directed by S.J. Clarkson and stars Dakota Johnson as Cassie Webb, a paramedic who develops precognitive abilities after a near-death experience. The film also features Tahar Rahim, Adam Scott, Kerry Bishé, Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor in supporting roles.

The film follows Cassie as she tries to use her visions to prevent a series of violent attacks orchestrated by Ezekiel Sims, a wealthy businessman who can also see the future and wants to eliminate three teenage girls who will grow up to be his assassins. Along the way, Cassie discovers her connection to a secret society of spider-people and her role in a larger cosmic conflict.

Madame Web is the third film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, following Venom (2018) and Morbius (2020). The film is loosely inspired by the comic book storyline "Spider-Verse", which features multiple versions of Spider-Man from different dimensions. The film also references events and characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and the Avengers.

The film received mostly negative reviews from critics, who criticized its confusing plot, bland action, and poor visual effects. Some critics also found the film to be a superfluous addition to the crowded superhero genre, and a wasted opportunity to explore a more interesting and original character. However, some critics praised Johnson's performance, as well as the film's humor and self-awareness.

The film was a box office flop, grossing only $65 million worldwide against a budget of $150 million. The film's poor performance cast doubt on the future of Sony's Spider-Man Universe, which had planned to release several more spin-offs and crossovers. The film was also overshadowed by the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), which featured Tom Holland's Spider-Man teaming up with previous actors who played the character, such as Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
