The Voice Australia recap: Four-chair turns, a surprise audition and an Ultimate Block

The blind auditions continued Monday night on The Voice Australia, with a mix of high-energy performances, emotional backstories and a surprise moment that left the coaches scrambling to respond.

The night began with Callan James, a 25-year-old from New Zealand, who took on Good as Hell by Lizzo. His confident stage presence and upbeat delivery immediately connected with both the coaches and the crowd, earning a four-chair turn. Richard Marx praised his charisma, saying:

From Castlemaine in Victoria, 18-year-old drummer Boriss Bendrups brought a fresh take on Maneater by Hall & Oates. Having only recently stepped out from behind the drum kit, Boriss admitted it was his first time singing on stage. His mix of nerves and raw energy won over both Kate Miller-Heidke and Melanie C. Kate admired his immersion in the performance, saying: “I could tell that you were fully living and breathing inside that song.” Melanie, who secured him for her team, affectionately referred to him as “my little ray of sunshine.”

Next up was Justin Rynne, 27, from New South Wales, who described himself as a DJ ready to move beyond playing other artists’ songs. Performing Canned Heat by Jamiroquai, Justin brought a funky, high-energy vibe that had the audience on their feet. Only Kate Miller-Heidke turned her chair, but she gave him a warm welcome to her team, acknowledging both his strengths and areas to grow.

he night’s biggest surprise came when Kate Miller-Heidke invited 19-year-old Alyssa Delpopolo from Sydney to step up from the audience and audition. Taking on Lose Control by Teddy Swims, Alyssa delivered a commanding performance that prompted all four chairs to turn. However, the moment turned dramatic when Ronan Keating played his Ultimate Block, preventing the other coaches from making their case.
