Billie Eilish Calls Out AI-Generated Met Gala Fake

Billie Eilish Calls Out AI-Generated Met Gala Fake

Even when she’s not attending an event, Billie Eilish can’t escape fashion critics. The Grammy-winning singer recently shut down rumors that she attended this year’s Met Gala after an AI-generated image of her at the event went viral.

On her Instagram Story, Eilish clarified that she wasn’t even in New York for the prestigious fashion event. "Seeing people talk about what I wore to this year's Met Gala being trash — I wasn't there," she said while casually eating an ice cream cone. "That's AI. I had a show in Europe that night. Let me be! I wasn't even there!"

The fake image, which circulated widely on social media, depicted Eilish in an elaborate outfit, fooling many fans and critics into believing she had made a surprise appearance. However, the singer was actually performing overseas as part of her ongoing tour.

Eilish isn’t the only celebrity who fell victim to AI-generated Met Gala misinformation. Earlier this month, a fabricated photo of Katy Perry at the event also surfaced online. Like Eilish, Perry was not in attendance—she, too, is currently on tour.

The rise of AI-generated images has sparked debates over authenticity and misinformation, especially in the entertainment industry. High-profile events like the Met Gala, known for their exclusive guest lists and extravagant fashion, have become prime targets for AI fakery.

Fans have expressed frustration over the spread of these fake images, with many calling for stricter regulations on AI-generated content. "It’s wild how real these fakes look," one Twitter user wrote. "Celebrities shouldn’t have to keep clarifying they weren’t somewhere."

Neither Eilish nor Perry has commented further on the incidents, but their quick responses highlight the growing challenge of combating deepfake technology. As AI continues to advance, the line between reality and fabrication becomes increasingly blurred.

For now, Eilish has moved on—enjoying her ice cream and leaving the AI-generated drama behind.
