Florence Pugh Embraces Gothic Romanticism in Sheer Elie Saab Gown for ‘Thunderbolts*’ London Premiere
Pugh turned to the runway for her romantic, Gothic-inspired
look courtesy of Elie Saab’s fall 2024 couture collection. The gown featured a
fitted bodice with a drop waist, and married sheer fabric with floral
embroidery throughout. The dress featured a plunging neckline with slim straps.
The bodice featured horizontal sheer paneling, contrasting with the black base
fabric. The bodice and skirt of the gown featured floral lace detailing and
embroidery throughout.
As for her accessories, Pugh opted for two delicate
bracelets and earrings. Her makeup featured a pop of color thanks to orange eye
shadow, bold brows and a neutral lip courtesy of artist Alex Babsky. Pugh’s
hair featured sleek styling to frame her face by stylist Hyungsun Ju. Pugh’s
look was curated by stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray, who’s also worked with
Simone Ashley and Gemma Chan, among others.
Pugh’s “Thunderbolts*” London red carpet premiere look made
its runway debut in June 2024 as part of Paris Couture Week. “The Lebanese
designer was inspired by Russian Khokhloma art, the traditional painting of
florals and nature elements on black lacquered wood, a color contrast Saab
embraced here embodied via vines twisting up the bodice and bustiers extending
away from the body for added shape. He looked to Gothic tones for the core of
the collection,” Rhonda Richford wrote in WWD’s review of the collection.
“Standout pieces included fringed gowns in brighter colors with plenty of swoosh and swing as they made their way down the runway, and played with swirls on epaulettes or back detailing that resembled wings.”
